What is Lymphoedema?

Lymphoedema or swelling of certain parts of the body, occurs when excessive amounts of lymphatic fluid are not drained by the normal process of the body’s lymphatic system.

What causes Lymphoedema?

It is most commonly caused by removal of, or damage to, lymph nodes in the area of the swelling. For example after surgery for breast cancer removal or after an accident. Some people can be born with primary lymphoedema.

How do you treat my Lymphoedema issues?

Lymphoedema cannot be cured as the lymph nodes have been damaged. There are, however, many techniques and treatments available at Lymphoedema South West to manage your lymphoedema and make your life easier whilst living with this condition.

  • Intermittent Compression Pump - both upper and lower limb sleeves.

  • Compression Bandaging techniques

  • Compression Garment prescription, measurement and fitting service

  • Lymphatic massage techniques

  • Home programs to enable self management

  • Exercises to promote self care and improvement of the affected area

I just want a Lymphatic Drainage Massage.

We do utilise massage techniques in our therapy, however, if you simply require a massage, please contact a massage therapist.
